Childbirth Preparation Classes

Birth Travels :: New Mexico Childbirth Preparation and Doula Services for Los Alamos, Santa Fe and Northern New MexicoBirthing From Within classes are not your run-of-the-mill sit, listen and learn classes. These classes are interactive, fun, juicy, and ever-changing. My goal is to help couples discover their deepest questions, ideas, expectations, fears, hopes and dreams about their upcoming birth of, and life with, their new babe. We will explore the amazing physiology of labor and birth, learn pain-coping techniques, listen and tell stories of old (and new), experiment with birth art, talk about risks, interventions, medical and holistic ways of birthing, and prepare in a personal way for the journey into birth and parenthood.

My hope is when you finish the class you will have: a new perspective of birth as a rite-of-passage, feel confident that your birth will be amazing and beautiful, no matter how or where you birth, have new friends to share with, be closer in some way to your partner, and have resources to call upon now and in post-partum.

Testimonials

Kelly was the ideal doula -- calm, supportive, helpful, intuitive, observant, knowledgable. She knew just when to step in and offer advice or encouragement, and she helped to interface with hospital staff . Her warm compress was nothing short of divine inspiration!  Knowing Kelly was there for the long haul was comforting and gave me confidence to follow the Bradley method for natural child birth for delivering both of my children.

-Jennifer H. Los Alamos

We love Kelly. As first time parents committed to a non-medicated birth, we were looking for an exceptionally kind, supportive and knowledgeable doula to guide us through the process. Kelly was wonderful. From our initial meeting on her back porch, all the way through the 23 hours of birthing, Kelly was inexhaustibly warm, supportive, and giving. During our prenatal visits, Kelly helped both my husband and me gain the confidence we needed to achieve a non-medicated birth. After meeting with her for the very first time I actually lost my fear of birthing -- with my husband and Kelly by my side I just knew I could do it. Kelly provided a wealth of information and was always available to answer questions. My husband was very involved in helping me prepare for the big day, and in many ways Kelly was as much a support to him as she was to me. When things got “tough” during the birthing, Kelly was the one person who kept us both calm and focused with her quiet and compassionate demeanor. She held my hand, massaged my back, and whispered encouragement exactly when needed. In addition, her familiarity with the hospital and her ability to navigate stressful decisions was invaluable. Ultimately, the birth of our son was an amazing experience, in a huge part because of her presence.

Kelly was such a blessing to have with me for the births of my son and daughter. She brought an incredibly calming presence to both my labor experiences. Her knowledge of the stages of labor and strategies to get through those stages made 2 natural childbirths possible. She was encouraging to my husband and helped him engage in the process in positive and helpful ways. Kelly was such a positive presence in my birthing experience I can’t imagine having done it without her. Now all I need is her to be my Doula through the child rearing!
